Simone Russ is an artist working in a variety of media, but primarily oil and color pencils. Although she is strongly drawn to portraiture and the human figure, she is interested in exploring all genres and expressions of art.
Simone has always been drawn to creative pursuits, including crafting, sewing, and baking, but art has always been her passion. From majoring in art in high school to getting her bachelors degree in art from New York University, to a variety of workshops and lectures, she loves to expand her education and explore the various methods of creating art.
In her portrait triptychs, by narrowing her palette to monochromatic, she is able to focus her concentration on accurately capturing the spirit and personality of the subject. On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, with her color pencil animal series, Simone seeks to explore the nuances of color both as seen in nature and imagined.
Her favorite genre of art is classical realism, although imaginative realism and illustration are close behind, and all forms of animation delight her. Some of her favorite classical artists and inspirations are, in no particular order, John William Godward, William Bougereau, Alphonse Mucha, John William Waterhouse, Norman Rockwell, and Jean-Leon Gerome. Some of her favorite contemporary artists are Juliette Aristedes, James C. Christensen, and James Gurney.
Simone Russ currently lives and works in Las Vegas, NV. She lives with her fiance, their two dogs. In her spare time, Simone likes to surf the web, watch way too much tv, and explore her city. You can find her on Facebook, or Instagram, and Red Bubble.
